The Imagination Celebration at Harbor Heights Elementary in Gig Harbor is an annual event that gives students the opportunity to have new and amazing experiences. In one day they may learn to make a bird feeder, try physical training first-hand with a soldier from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, or unlock their inner artist as they draw, paint, or sculpt.
Teacher Terry McClelland started the first Imagination Celebration at Harbor Heights Elementary many years back. This year he handed the coordination reigns off to his associates, but Mr. McClelland continues to teach and be actively involved with the event. He says that when older students come back to visit, they frequently mention how they remember their fun experiences from the Imagination Celebration.
This was my third time performing as part of the event – my first time was in 1998 – and one of the highlights for me is getting to poke my head into the other classrooms during the breaks to see what fun projects students are learning and exploring.
- The PTA provided the volunteers to help make the day’s activities run smoothly, as well as providing the funds for presenters like me. Thank you!
- Fantastic breakfast and lunch were provided – very nice!
- Density demonstration (oil and water transposition) mesmerizes
- I wanted to play Mega Bowling, but knew I’d make a spectacle of myself.
- Mrs. Watson’s library looks FUN
- Watch out, Chihuly! These plastic sculptures are made by kids, but look like glass even from inches away
