Libraries celebrate Dr. Seuss’
Birthday with Magic
Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as Dr. Seuss, was born on March 2, 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Each year elementary students “Read Across America” to celebrate his birthday in early March. I include several “Seussian” twists to my Reading Magic school assembly to make it a popular tie-in to this fun reading tradition.
Yesterday I visited the McCleary and Montesano Timberland Libraries. Thanks, Karen K. and Carol B., who have had me be part of their Seuss party the past two years. Photos are courtesy of Helen Hepp of the Monte Friends of the Library and Carol of the McCleary Friends of the Library.
It was also a treat to have the new director of the Timberland Regional Library System, Cheryl Haywood, on hand to meet patrons and introduce me at Monte!

Miss these shows and want to make sure you find out in advance next time? I’ll be back at the Montesano Timberland Library and several other Timberland Regional Libraries this June-July-August for their Summer Reading Program. My “Dig into Magic” show will also be featured at the Seattle Public Libraries, Tacoma Public Libraries, and numerous branches of the King County Library System, and Sno-Isle Library System. Ask me for details or visit your local library’s website as the summer approaches.
Coming up this week: Read Across America Magic Shows at Lackamas Elementary in Yelm, Ocean Park Elementary, Long Beach Elementary, and Naselle Elementary.
